For the past two years John Brolly of Made in These Isles has been collating lists from individuals who share a passion for British design and manufacturing.

Smartly titled Makers Dozen, each list features 13 home grown brands accompanied with photography and running commentary.

After some quick 'googling' I learned that it's thanks to some crooked 13th-century bakers which resulted in a 'bakers dozen' being 13 and not the expected 12.

Notorious for shorting customers with skimpy loaves, strict laws were implemented to standardize the weight of a loaf. Since bakers wanted to stay on the right side of the law, they would typically hand out 13 loaves to any customer buying a dozen.

So here it is, the NOMOI Makers Dozen.
